Umatilla-based Electron Machine takes big honors at metro-Orlando area tech awards

Release Date: October 14, 2014

TAVARES – Umatilla-based Electron Machine Corporation was recently named the Lake County Regional Innovator during the 24th Annual Schwartz Tech Awards, hosted by the Orlando Economic Development Commission (EDC), the Orlando Tech Association and Florida High Tech Corridor Council.

Electron Machine created the first in-line process refractometer more than 50 years ago when orange juice was first concentrated, and has since become a major exporter both regionally and worldwide.

“I am proud of the honors Electron Machine and President C.A. Vossberg have earned,” said Lake County Board of County Commissioners Chairman Jimmy Conner. “The company is widely considered a pioneer in research, a top performer in export manufacturing and a great supporter of the local tech community. On behalf of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, I am grateful for the groundbreaking work and invaluable contributions Electron Machine makes to Lake County’s economy.”

Earlier this year, Electron Machine won the Governor’s Export Excellence Award and was honored for its impressive export numbers, including their worldwide exports, which accounted for 53 percent of sales in 2012.

Vossberg has noted that a key factor in Electron Machine’s success is its highly-skilled, local workforce and Lake County’s small business support.

The Schwartz Tech Awards, named after the late William C. Schwartz, an innovator within the field of optics and photonics, recognizes companies and individuals for bright ideas, creative solutions, pioneering research and support for the Orlando-area’s booming technology industry.
