Lake County Extension to have ‘Cooking with Winter Herbs’ classes

TAVARES —The “Cooking with Winter Herbs” program from UF/IFAS Lake County Extension includes hands-on food preparation using cool season herbs in a variety of healthy dishes.

“Fresh herbs add flavor and can improve the nutrition of meals,” said Julie England, family and consumer sciences agent, who also will lead the class. “Cool-season herbs include cilantro, dill, parsley, fennel, oregano and thyme.”

The first class will take place from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 21, and registration is required by Feb. 19: http://winterherbs2013.eventbrite.com.

The class will be repeated from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25, and registration is required by Feb. 23: http://winterherbspm.eventbrite.com.

There is a $12 materials fee for the class. Early registration is suggested because seating is limited.

The Lake County Extension provides research-based information and educational program cooperatively with the Lake County Board of County Commissioners and the University of Florida for all aspects of horticulture, agriculture, food safety, the home environment, financial management and 4-H youth programs.

The Extension’s mission is to make knowledge in agricultural, human and natural resources accessible to people to sustain and enhance the quality of human life.  The Lake County Extension provides a free Master Gardener plant clinic and free consultations as well as educational programs on a variety of subjects.
