John Mica, Daniel Webster, others to present at Regional Summit for eco-tourism initiatives

MOUNT DORA — The Lake County Board of County Commissioners will host a Regional Summit on Land Issues Impacting the North Shore of Lake Apopka from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Mount Dora Community Building, 520 E. Baker St., downtown Mount Dora. U.S. Reps. John Mica [R-FL7], Daniel Webster [R-FL10], and state Sen. Alan Hays will speak at the event.
The summit will consider the impacts of a proposed airport expansion in the area, and will discuss the emerging eco-tourism industry in the region, including the 49-mile Apopka Loop Trail and bird-watching activities associated with the Lake Apopka North Shore Restoration Area. In addition, information will be presented regarding a variety of efforts and pilot projects designed to improve access to the lake and promote fisheries, thereby opening up new opportunities for recreation on Lake Apopka.
Representatives from the Florida Department of Transportation, St. Johns River Water Management District, West Orange Airport Authority, Florida Audubon Society, Sierra Club and Lake County. Orange County Commissioner Fred Brummer, as well as several surrounding municipalities also will participate in the discussion.
